This was our longest road trip to date, but all the kids did great!!! I was quite impressed how much they were able to hang in there stuck in their carseats for so long, especially since we really did it "old school" style: no iPads, no DVD players, no electronics. We talked, listened to music, searched and found tons of trains, cows, windmills, horses, tractors, cotton fields, sunflower fields, rice fields, corn fields, and many other farms.
Alex was over the moon seeing so many trains! He was SO excited every time we spotted another one.
Ava was inquisitive about the different sights she saw and loved playing guessing games and other road games.
Sofia seemed content to mostly nap, but enjoyed the snacks, songs, and sights too.
They were all super excited to get to stay at a hotel, to have their own personal suitcases, and to play with their new cousins, many of whom are their same age. They couldn't wait to go to the beach, and I couldn't wait to see what Sofia thought of it all for the first time.
We arrived around 8pm on Thursday, met up with Jason, Reagan, and Staci and all their kids and hung out for a bit in their room until all the kids were really ready for bed. Though it was a vacation, we knew the kids would be up with the sunrise and ready for the beach at 7am!
Sure enough, the next morning no one could wait to go to the beach. By the time we made it down there, Sofia too was ready to play. When I first set her down on the sand to walk out to where everyone had set up camp, Sofia just stared at her feet in the sand. She then bent down to touch the funny feeling under her toes, and then...she fell in love. Sofia LOVED the sand, loved the water, loved the waves, loved the shells, and loved watching the birds everywhere.
We spent the entire weekend outside, either on the beach or at the hotel pool. The kids could not get enough! It really was so much fun!
As usual, though, this is much better expressed in pictures!
I LOVE THE BEACH!!!!!!

Sofia LOVED chasing, following, and waving to the birds!
She was even ready for take off at one point ;)
Nothing like building sand castles, sand pits, and sand mounds on the beach!

Water + sand = pedicure
Getting dirty in the sand is SO MUCH FUN!!!!
Alex is always such a sweet brother - offering to wash off his baby sister with fresh water (and sand)
Ava loved it all too!
We even went to a sand castle competition down the beach for extra inspiration!
Nothing like a little cotton candy to stain Ava's teeth a lovely shade of purple!

My water baby
Sofia loved the waves splashing on her! She had no fear, did not mind the salt water, and couldn't wait for more waves to roll around in.
Alex played with the dump truck in the water for hours! He was almost in a meditative space, just him and that truck, and totally at peace. :)
The masterpiece: a "castle" made out of sand balls ;)
