Alex's speech development has jumped so much in just the past two weeks! He has gone from speaking what mainly sounds like Russian and Japanese, to saying so many words that we now understand.

payne = plane (points it out in the sky when he hears it)
dow-tao= downtown (said while we are driving to school)

ees-cohl = it's cold (he points this out when I open the refrigerator or freezer)

I wan papa = I want to eat! (breakfast, lunch or dinner!)

I wan coh Vovo = I want to call Vovo (if we succeed in getting Vovo on the phone, he always asks where's Voovoo?)

There are so many more, I will just have to wait until he wakes up to continue to add to the list! :) It's so fun to be able to understand more of what he wants to say, express, and share.

Oh the things kids say!
At Christmas mass, Ava was paying a lot of attention to what the priest was saying, so much so that at communion time she said,
Ava: Mommy, he just said wine.
Me: Yes, he did.
Ava: Does Jesus whine? Does he cry too?
Me: (after a second to catch on to what she was saying) Yes, I think Jesus probably cries sometimes too.
Also, Ava did seem very confused and questioned why we sang so many songs, but never sang "Happy Birthday" if we were celebrating Jesus's birthday. :) She was confused as to why we wouldn't sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. Such a sweet little girl!

Earlier this weekend Ava saw the end of the movie "Father of the Bride" with me while she and Alex were having lunch and getting ready for naptime.
Ava: Mommy, I need a dress like that. I don't have a dress like that one.
Me: A wedding dress?
Ava: Yes, I need a wedding dress. I don't have one yet... pause... Can we go to a wedding?
Me: Sure, we can go to a wedding sometime. (I thought of mentioning Gui and Bia's wedding coming in July, but then thought that might be a bad idea since we won't be able to go to Brazil right after the baby is born) Maybe if tia Chris and Yimmers get married, we can go to their wedding. Do you want to?
Big mistake on my part asking that question, since I hadn't quite caught on to what she was talking about.
Ava: (starting to get upset) No! I want to go to my wedding! I want to wear the dress!
I couldn't help but laugh a little, since Ava was getting so distraught as we were going upstairs to take a nap and she was so serious about it being her wedding.
Me: Shhh, Ava, dont' get upset and let's not wake up Alex. You want to get married?
Ava: Yes, I want to wear the dress and get married.
Me: Who are you going to marry?
Ava: I'm going to marry my friend, Milako (made up friend). Then we will have a wedding and have a kiss.
Me: Well, how about you take a nap and dream about your wedding and your dress, then when you wake up we can draw your dress.
Ava: Okay, I will dream about my wedding dress. It is going to be pink and big (making a hand gesture to describe a big ballgown).Will you help me draw it when I wake up?
Me: Sure! Have a good nap!
We ended up not drawing it, since she got distracted with other things after waking up, but I certainly did not expect her reaction nor understanding so much about weddings!

On our way to school the other day:
Ava: Mommy! Look at that silly tree!
Me: Which one?
Ava: That one with the yellow and orange leaves! It doesn't have any green leaves!
I just love how observant she is, and love how with Texas weather the leaves don't fall or change color until January!!!

This is a couple months old, but still very fitting for this topic. This was the conversation that ensued when we told Ava we were having another baby, of course it coincided with when Raquel was here visiting and was 6 months pregnant herself:
Me: Ava! Guess what?
Ava: What?
Me: Quequel has a baby in her tummy, it's a little girl! And guess what?
Ava: What?
Me: I have a baby in my tummy too! You are going to have a baby brother or a baby sister! Isn't that exciting?
Ava: Well, I have 5 babies in my tummy.
Me: You do?
Ava: Yep, 5. Do you know their names?
Me: No, what are they?
Ava: There's baby Quequel, Marina, tia Stela, tio Paulo, but a girl Tio Paulo, and Bia.
Well, there was no way to top that! She apparently didn't want to be left out, so she has since kept up the idea that she has babies in her tummy too and knows that only girls can have babies in their tummy.

On a related note, this is just too funny and observant not to write down. One day when Ava was going to the bathroom she asked:
Ava: Mommy, does your baby come out when you go to the bathroom?
I guess we won't be having the conversation of how the baby comes out, since apparently Ava already figured out a logical exit path.Me: No, the baby is not ready to come out yet.
Ava: Yeah, my babies don't come out either. They are still too little.
Ava: Mommy, he just said wine.

Dancing machine
Alex has always had great dancing moves. From the time he could walk, he could dance, and has always had a love of music (much like his sister!). Lately his dancing moves have become a lot more bouncy, with some hand/arm movements, and he now asks to dance "more dance? dance?"

Happy 2013!!!
Well after such an eventful week, we did tone it down a bit for New Year's Eve. We stayed home, got cozy and out of the cold, and just had a low key evening - though filled with trying to keep the kids from being too disturbed by all the fireworks, some right under Alex's bedroom window (thanks neighbors!).
New year's day was quite cold and dreary, so we spent most of the day getting organized inside, playing with our new toys, but then the kids started getting a little cabin fever. By about 4pm I was a little tired of the teasing going on back and forth between Ava and Alex who were really just bored! So we got dressed, bundled up, and went for a ride around the block on our new bikes, trikes, and automobiles! :) The fresh air did us wonders!!!

Okay, so yes, I do realize I look quite ridiculous! But in my defense, Ava was finding it difficult to figure out how to make the little wiggle car go, so I had to show her and get her to ride on it with me to check out how much fun it could be. So what if I'm 5 months pregnant! A mom's gotta do, what a mom's gotta do! :)
